The North Kigezi diocesan Bishop’s commissary, Rev. Canon Mugisha Nathan Kirebete, has challenged active clergy members to focus on strengthening people’s relationships with God and ensuring that the church continues to progress.

He made these remarks on Sunday during the farewell service of Rev. Canon Ahimbisibwe Eldard Kashanje, the Archdeacon of Nyakagyeme Archdeaconry, who requested an early retirement after reaching 60 years instead of the mandatory 65 years.

Rev. Canon Kirebete highlighted the importance of serving God faithfully until the end, cautioning that some servants stray from the truth, break believers’ hearts, embezzle church funds, and other actions that lead to darkness in their service journey.

He commended Rev. Canon Kashanje for his unwavering commitment and fearless, faithful service to God.

Additionally, the bishop’s commissary urged clergy members to focus on serving the church and prepare for life after active service (retirement) by building their homes and ensuring they have sustainable means of livelihood.

Rev. Canon Eldard Kashanje reflected on his 40 years of service in the church, noting that he started as a catechist, later became an ordinand by God’s grace, was ordained as a reverend, promoted to archdeacon, and ultimately elevated to canon.

He praised the Christians of Nyakagyeme for their cooperation in developing the Archdeaconry, sharing that some areas have seen status upgrades: Kyabigashe Church of Uganda Parish is now an Archdeaconry, while Kahoko, Mitooma, and Mashongora Churches of Uganda have been elevated to parish status.

Dr. Muhwezi Edson Mpirime, the head of the laity for Nyakagyeme Archdeaconry, described Rev. Canon Kashanje as a hardworking and development-oriented leader.

He emphasized some achievements, including forming new parishes and an archdeaconry, enhancing revival in the area, and advocating against domestic violence.

Rev. Caleb Karabamu, the parish priest of Nyakagyeme Church of Uganda, praised Canon Kashanje for being a role model to fellow clergy and believers, stating that he has learned a lot from his example.
