Local leaders of Nyakagyeme Sub County in Rukungiri District are celebrating the construction of Kimwani Bridge by the district authorities.

Kimwani Bridge had a deep pothole, located at the boundary of Nyakagyeme and Ruhinda Sub Counties in the Parishes of Masya and Ndere respectively. Construction on the bridge, estimated to cost 48 million UGX, was launched two weeks ago.

Wilson Karimugisha, the Chairperson of LC1 Mabungo Cell, explained that they had previously mobilized funds to construct the bridge, but it was swept away by water due to substandard work. He expressed gratitude for the construction, highlighting its importance for the smooth movement of students and goods.

Ambrose Mugabe Nkabahena, the Chairperson of LC2 Masya Parish, echoed this gratitude. He emphasized the positive impact of the collaboration between Nyakagyeme and Ruhinda Sub Counties on trade and leadership, facilitating access to markets and institutions.

Obed Mwesigwa Mayanja, the Councilor representing Masya Parish and Speaker of Nyakagyeme Sub County, reiterated that Kimwani Bridge had been a significant barrier to trade and student access to schools of their choice.

Ms. Hellen Kabajungu, the Chairperson of LC3 Ruhinda Sub County, noted that the construction of Kimwani Bridge has saved leaders from criticism.
