Leaders from Rubaare Sub-County in Ntungamo District continue to encourage residents of Omungyenyi Parish and neighboring areas to take advantage of their newly established market to improve their standards of living.

This new market, located in Omungyenyi Parish, was officially commissioned on December 2. It operates every Monday, twice a month, and features a wide variety of trade items, including animals, clothing, food, and other goods.

John Twinomujuni, the LC2 Chairperson of Omungyenyi Parish, highlighted the market’s objectives, such as fostering development in the area and improving residents’ livelihoods. However, he noted challenges hindering the market’s operations, particularly the poor state of roads leading to it. He urged the relevant authorities to address this issue to enhance the market’s functionality and contribute to the development of the area and the country as a whole.

Coleb Tindimwebwa, the LC3 Chairperson of Rubaare Sub-County, told our reporter that the primary aim of establishing the market in Omungyenyi Parish was to improve residents’ standards of living and stimulate development in both the parish and the surrounding areas by facilitating trade with people from different regions.

Tindimwebwa added that the market also seeks to boost the sale of agricultural products such as livestock and crops, as most residents are engaged in farming and animal husbandry. He emphasized that traders are currently exempt from paying any taxes to operate in the market, urging residents to seize this opportunity.

While discussing challenges facing the market, Tindimwebwa also pointed to the poor condition of roads in the area. He mentioned that a community effort has been organized to improve the roads while they await government intervention. He called on officials, including the LC5 Chairperson, to expedite the process of upgrading the roads to support the market’s success.
