Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming launch of the Bishop’s Development Fund (BDF), aimed at raising resources for the construction of a 3.1 billion UGX Kigezi Shopping Mall by the Diocese of Kigezi in Kabale Municipality.

The Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, announced that the launch will take place on Saturday at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Rugarama, in Kabale District, with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the chief guest.

Speaking to the press at the diocesan headquarters this evening, Bishop Akanjuna explained that the event will begin with a church service led by the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda. The sermon will be delivered by the Most Rev. Dr. Laurent Mbanda, Archbishop of the Church of Rwanda.

The shopping mall will be built on the current site of the diocesan bookshop in Kabale town, located along the Kabale-Kisoro road. In July, during a dinner organized by the Diocese of Kigezi Kampala Chapter at Kembabazi Catering Services in Naguru, Canon Johnson Baryantuma Munono, the Diocesan Head of Laity and Chairman of the 15-member Program Committee, announced that construction is set to begin in November 2024, after receiving approval from all diocesan stakeholders.

Bishop Akanjuna also highlighted that the business community in greater Kabale District, as well as Christians both within and beyond the diocese, have been rallied to support the project.
