The Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner Steven Nsubunga Bewayo , has directed all schools in Rukungiri to start patriotism clubs in their schools and those who have them to be revamped as a measure to help instill a sense of love for the country among the students.
He made these remarks Monday afternoon while presiding over the passing out of 322 patriots from form1 and 5 at Kashenyi secondary school in Ruhinda sub-county Rukungiri district.
Nsubunga noted that introducing learners to Patriotism at an early age can help them not engage in strikes and fight corruption both at schools and in their communities.
He commended the head teacher and school committees of Kashenyi secondary school for introducing learners to patriotism skills and challenged the students to love their country.
RDC Nsubunga noted that the essence of patriotism is to instill a sense of ownership and develop mindset change, hence commending the district patriotism office for the good work they are doing in developing patriotism clubs in the schools around the district.
According to Vito Bashasha the coordinator of patriotism activities in Rukungiri district, the course is to prepare the young students to be better people in the future and transform their mindset for their personal and national transformation.
He said the patriotism club is headed by the president of Uganda as the patron and the President of Uganda directed schools to start patriotism clubs so that they can equip students with knowledge and skills on how to love their country.
Canon Wickilif Mackey Twinomujuni the headteacher of Kashenyi secondary school said the patriotism club is doing great work in the school because it has helped them to maintain discipline and be free from strikes
He thanked the RDC for supporting them as it was the second time to passing out patriots at Kashenyi secondary school.
Patriotism is a universalized government program that was launched by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in February 2009.
