Parents, teachers, and local leaders have been urged to work together to ensure the smooth running and development of schools, a move expected to improve the education sector in Rukungiri Municipality.

The call was made by Robert Angumye, the new Rukungiri Municipal Education Officer, during the commissioning of newly constructed stenciled latrines at Kitimba Primary School in Kitimba Ward, Western Division. The school, formerly a private church-founded institution, was officially handed over to the government a year ago. Since then, it has faced challenges including inadequate classrooms, limited access to clean water, and a shortage of toilet facilities and teaching staff.

Angumye assured the public of the government’s commitment to supporting the school’s development but emphasized that lasting progress can only be achieved through cooperation between parents, teachers, and the government.

The Headteacher of Kitimba Primary School, Herbert Bemerire, expressed gratitude for the new toilet facility, noting it was a timely intervention to improve hygiene at the school. He highlighted that the previous situation had teachers and pupils sharing a single church-owned toilet. However, he also appealed for more support, saying the newly constructed toilet is still insufficient for the school’s growing population.

Meanwhile, Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom, the guest of honor, urged all stakeholders to ensure close supervision of school construction projects to avoid shoddy work that could endanger lives. Ongom acknowledged the infrastructural gaps but reassured parents that plans are in place for further development. He cited the construction of some classrooms and the new toilet as milestones achieved within a year and asked for continued patience and support.

The event marked a significant step in the government’s efforts to improve learning conditions at Kitimba Primary School.
