There is growing tension in Garubunda Parish, Kebisoni Sub County, Rukungiri District, as the newly elected Kitenga LC1 Youth NRM Committee demands a clear explanation over what they describe as “secretive” elections of the LC2 Committee.

The Youth Committee, which was elected on Tuesday, 6th May 2025 during the structural elections, was mandated to participate in electing the LC2 leadership. However, they say they arrived at the designated election grounds on time, only to find the process already concluded without any prior communication.

Faith Keishemeza, the Publicity Secretary, expressed disappointment upon arriving at the Parish headquarters for voting, only to find a few members claiming the elections had already been completed within minutes.

The Committee’s General Secretary, Ainebyoona Innocent Kagari, also voiced frustration, stating that they had expected the elections to begin at 10:00 AM, but were shocked to find them already over.

Vice Chairperson Musingiza Hannington distanced himself from the newly elected LC2 Committee, calling its formation invalid and expressing no solidarity with its members.

However, Mwesigire Stevenson Sharrif, who oversaw the elections, maintained that the process was conducted properly and blamed the youth members for arriving late with their complaints.

Despite this, Faith Keishemeza insisted that a satisfactory explanation be given, accusing the organizers of wasting their time and showing disrespect to the committee.

Meanwhile, Chris Turwomwe, another youth representative, called for a re-election to ensure the right leaders are put in place through a transparent process.
