Youths in Kisoro have been urged to explore and capitalize on the various agri-business opportunities available to them to attain prosperity in time.

The call was made on Tuesday by Naigaga Gudla Basaza, the director of Gudie Leisure Farm, during a coordination meeting between Gudie Leisure Farm beneficiaries, officials, and the Kisoro District Production Office in Kibaaya Village, Nyakabande Sub County.

Professor Gudla emphasized that Gudie Leisure Farm has provided training to over 10,000 youths from 21 parishes in Kisoro District, covering diverse fields such as agriculture and white meat animal rearing.

She highlighted that these youths comprise both students and school dropouts, urging them to apply their skills and knowledge to benefit from government initiatives like PDM Project Development Model and Youth Livelihood Program, among others.

Naigaga also stressed the importance of embracing value chains and utilizing available opportunities within their local communities.

The coordinators of Gudie Leisure Farm School praised the project for introducing agricultural and animal rearing education in schools, as it not only provides a source of food but also equips learners with fundamental skills. They requested additional training for teachers to ensure they can impart all the necessary knowledge to students.

Chairpersons of the Parish Entrepreneurship Learning Association stated that through comprehensive training provided by Gudie Leisure Farm, they have acquired invaluable skills in agriculture, which are now yielding positive results within their communities.

Meanwhile, Birungyi Denis, the Kisoro District Fisheries Officer, advised the youth to focus on viable ventures within their localities. He acknowledged that while he would encourage all youths to engage in fish farming, not everyone has access to permanent and suitable water resources for fish breeding.
