Police in Kisoro District have issued a warning to school owners and students, urging them to refrain from resorting to strikes as the sole means of resolving their conflicts.

The O/C Kisoro Police station, Pius Asiimwe emphasizes that such actions not only contravene the law but also often result in loss of lives and property damage.

This advisory comes in the wake of an incident at Kisoro Saviour Secondary School on June 4th, 2023, where students reportedly engaged in a strike during the night.

Asiimwe pointed out that strikes tend to be more prevalent during the second term due to various challenges. However, he emphasized that dialogue always remains the optimal solution for resolving disagreements.

Regarding the situation at Kisoro Saviour Secondary School, the school’s director, Harerimana Emmanuel, stated that regular operations are underway, with all classes proceeding smoothly.

Harerimana acknowledged that minor misunderstandings arose among some Senior Six students, who unfortunately resorted to physical altercations instead of seeking peaceful resolutions.

In response, the school has initiated counseling and guidance sessions for each class to ensure students’ concerns are identified and addressed effectively.

Student representatives, interviewed by our reporter, expressed regret over the strike and confirmed that counseling had been provided to those involved in disagreements.
