Local leaders and residents are expressing deep concern over the deteriorating condition of Kiruruma Bridge, which serves as a vital link between Kambuga Subcounty and Kanungu Town Council.
Despite numerous appeals from residents and road users, the bridge, located on the Karubanda Hajjibari road, has gone unrepaired for approximately a year.
Residents highlight that the poor state of the bridge is severely impeding trade and access to essential services such as healthcare and education in neighboring districts. They emphasize that the government’s neglect in addressing the bridge’s condition is putting their lives in jeopardy.
In response to these concerns, residents urge local leaders to collaborate with district authorities to expedite the repair of the bridge and the road, as its deterioration suggests an imminent collapse.
Speaking on behalf of Kambuga Sub-county, Hon. Rutazaana Silver, the district councilor, reassures residents that funds totaling 1.3 billion shillings have been allocated to address the Karubanda-Hajjibari road. Although there have been some delays, he assures residents that the road and bridge will undergo repairs within the current financial year.
He further explains that Kanungu District lacks sufficient machinery but plans to acquire equipment on loan to expedite the repair process.
