Dr. Kiiza Besigye, a retired Colonel and prominent figure in Ugandan politics, has been elected as the Chairperson of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Rukungiri Municipality.
The party elections took place at Rozeri Gardens in Rwakabengo ward, Southern division, Rukungiri municipality where Besigye secured the seat unopposed, with the majority of party members seconding his candidacy in his absence.
Besigye’s victory was met with support from fellow party members, who expressed confidence in his leadership. Alongside him, other key party positions were filled, including Honest Tushemerirwe as Vice Chairperson, Ariho Phills as General Secretary, and Rubarondesa Innocent as Treasurer, among others.
In her statement to the press, newly elected Vice Chairperson, Honest Tushemerirwe, extended gratitude to FDC members for their trust in her leadership and pledged to collaborate with all party members for its advancement.
Mrs. Kyarugahi Viliginia, the FDC Chairperson for Rukungiri district, extended her appreciation to Dr. Kiiza Besigye for accepting the position, emphasizing their commitment to working together. She noted that their faction operates under the banner of Katonga.
Rt Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye previously run for the Ugandan presidency in four separate terms.
