The Kigezi Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Can. Milton Nkurunungi, has called upon Christian couples to embrace cooperation and unity as a way to address the rising cases of gender-based violence (GBV) in communities.

While preaching on behalf of the diocesan bishop during an Easter service for diocesan workers at the Kigezi diocesan offices on Rugarama Hill in the Northern Division of Kabale Municipality, Rev. Can. Nkurunungi expressed deep concern over the increasing incidents of domestic violence, describing them as alarming and contrary to Christian values.

Rev. Can. Nkurunungi noted with concern the troubling rise in GBV, particularly within Christian households, and urged the faithful to break the silence surrounding domestic violence. He called for the promotion of peaceful and loving environments within homes.

He further emphasized the importance of servant leadership in families, stating that mutual respect and humility are essential for fostering harmony and promoting development both within the family and in the wider community.

Drawing from the meaning of Easter, Rev. Can. Nkurunungi encouraged Christians to use the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as a foundation for spiritual renewal, forgiveness, and a renewed commitment to living Christ-like lives.

He reminded believers that the resurrection of Christ is not only a celebration of victory over death but also a reflection of the suffering and endurance that preceded it. He called on Christians to remain steadfast in their faith, even amidst challenges, just as Jesus endured the cross.
