Kenneth Mushana, who recently lost to James Hunter Byenjeru Tukahirwa in the NRM primaries for Kajara Constituency in Ntungamo District, has announced that he will not contest as an independent candidate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Mushana’s decision comes just a day before the final nomination of Members of Parliament scheduled for October 22 and 23, 2025. He revealed that his move follows the guidance of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who urged all NRM members who lost in the primaries to support the party’s official flag bearers.
While acknowledging that the primaries were marred by irregularities and unfairness, Mushana emphasized that his loyalty to the NRM party and its values outweighed his personal grievances. He noted that his decision was entirely voluntary, made in the interest of party unity and to ensure a fair and peaceful electoral process.
Mushana called upon all candidates and voters to conduct peaceful campaigns and avoid actions that could breed hostility, reminding them that elections are temporary while community relationships are long-lasting.
Meanwhile, Ntungamo District Woman MP Hon. Bata Kamateneti has also expressed her support for Viola Buroko Nyamanya, who defeated her in the NRM primaries, further signaling growing reconciliation and unity within the party ahead of the 2026 general elections.
