The former Rukungiri District Chairperson LC5, Andrewson Charles Katebire, has urged the government to initiate policies and regulations that provide a conducive environment for safe and productive activities in the Boda Boda industry.

He made the appeal today, Thursday 15th May 2025, while addressing Boda Boda riders of the Kebisoni Boda Boda Association during a fundraising event organized to raise funds for purchasing land for the establishment of offices and initiation of a SACCO.

Andrewson acknowledged the Boda Boda riders’ efforts in providing affordable transport services, remote area accessibility, financial services, and welfare, noting they deserve security for safe and purposeful operations.

Rev. Andrew Kananura, the Archdeacon of Kakinga Archdeaconry, in his sermon, implored Boda Boda riders to prioritize investment for retirement and urged the government to provide affordable fees for permit acquisition and road safety equipment for safer services.

Frank Mabwa, a candidate for the Kebisoni Sub County LC3 seat in the upcoming general elections, commended the strong work done by Boda Boda riders, their role in supporting families, and called on the public to respect and cooperate with the transporters.

Alex Kabangira, the Chairperson of the Kebisoni Boda Boda Association, reiterated the initial 20 million shillings raised out of the required 60 million to purchase land, emphasizing the need for offices and the SACCO to enhance financial inclusion and leave a lasting legacy.

Riders Gumisiriza Ronald, Gumisiriza Onani, and Natukunda Dan KyaKabaale praised their job for enabling them to earn a living but expressed concern over challenges such as harm, difficult clients, and arrests due to unknowingly transporting thieves.
