Kanungu District officials, led by Vice District Chairperson Hon. Mwongyera Henry, oversaw the successful handover of a vital water supply project and conducted assessments for upcoming road projects in a bid to improve infrastructure and community well-being.
The completion of the Bwashwa gravity flow scheme in Buhoma Town Council marked a significant milestone, with VINTUM SERVICES LTD completing the project valued at 191,895,358UGX. The project, set to benefit 1848 residents upon completion, was awarded for a duration of three months, addressing critical water needs in the area.
During the proceedings, Hon. Mwongyera emphasized the importance of education, urging parents to enroll their children in schools and vocational institutions like the Bwindi Community Vocational College. He also addressed concerns from tea farmers in the region, urging patience amid declining tea prices while highlighting potential market fluctuations, as demonstrated by the resurgence in coffee prices.
Meanwhile, Hon. Byamukama Francis, Secretary for social services, sought clarification on the water distribution plan from Engineer Martin Kobusheshe. Engineer Kobusheshe outlined the implementation of the gravity flow project in two phases, focusing initially on sensitive areas to serve the local population.
On the healthcare front, Hon. Kakobwa Diana, Woman Councillor representing Kayonza and Buhoma, highlighted the challenges faced due to poor road connectivity, seeking support from Bwashwa Health. Basheija Moses, LC III Buhoma Town Council, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for additional healthcare infrastructure to meet the growing demand.
Basheija proposed funding through revenue sharing to facilitate government support, emphasizing the community’s commitment to improving healthcare services.
As the handover ceremony concluded, it marked not only a step forward in infrastructure development but also a commitment from government officials to address education and healthcare challenges facing the Kanungu community.
