In preparation for the inter-Denominational thanksgiving prayers and independence celebrations scheduled for Friday, December 22, 2023, at Kanungu District Playground, District Chairperson Eng. Arinaitwe Sam Kajojo has announced that Doctors Medical Clinic will provide free medical services during the event.

This initiative is aimed at offering healthcare opportunities to the community, and residents are encouraged not to miss this valuable chance, especially considering the cost-saving consolidation due to budget limitations.

During the district council meeting held on December 20, 2023, and chaired by District Speaker Byaruhanga Frank, the health management for the re-approved Mpungu Health Centre IV was endorsed. Mr. Habart Banobi was appointed as the Committee Chairperson, and the committee members include Mr. Nydomugabe Januario, Mrs. Hilder Tulahigwa, Mr. Nahab Owoyesigire, Mr. Kamusiime Pius, Robert Kakuru Lc3 Chairperson, Dr. Atuheire Christopher I/C, Ms. Ndanjizimana Dinavence Ass. Nursing Officer, and Ms. Akankwasa Fortunate Enrolled Midwife.

For Kambuga Hospital, the previous Management Committee, led by Mr. Kipande Caleb, was retained with three members, namely Mr. Mwangi Martin Bujara, Mr. Kahigi Bosco Muhanguzi, and Can. Irene Bizimana.

Regarding Kabale referral hospital, Kanungu district was tasked with nominating one member with an engineering profession. Kwesiga Emmy Kurigamba, a civil engineer from Kanungu Town Council, was nominated for this role.

The council also addressed issues related to compensating community members for property damage and loss of lives caused by park animals, delays in electric fencing, and the absence of area MPs at council meetings. These MPs should be advocating for community concerns in Parliament.

During the same council session, the Kanungu District HIV and AIDS work plan policy received approval. Additionally, road projects, funded with 130M shillings, were approved, and Kanungu District secured one billion shillings for road rehabilitation. The council recommended adding the Itembezo-Ishaya-Mpungu road to the list, with the final decision to be made by the district roads committee. Priority was given to roads in the worst condition, addressing emergencies on district roads, and ensuring a balanced allocation of resources to different zones in the district.

Kanungu District RDC Ambrose Mwesigye urged community members to remain vigilant regarding security, cautioning that terrorists had shifted their focus to softer targets with minimal security. He shared the unfortunate news of rebels attacking Kamwengye District, resulting in ten deaths, including Mugume Cleophas from Butogota Town Council.

Ambrose emphasized the need to protect vulnerable girls during the festive season, warning against employing underage children. He called for collective efforts to combat defilement and child abuse, also highlighting the completion of a new tarmac road for development purposes, not as a potential hazard, and condemned grazing on the road and theft of road signs.
