Charles Mugisha an Assistant Accounts Officer in Kanungu District was today arrested by the office of Inspector General of Government Kigezi regional office on charges of embezzling over shillings 218,840,000M.
Sam Agaba , the inspector General in – charge of Kigezi sub-region confirms the arrest of Charles Mugisha saying that he will be charged with Embezzlement and False accounting by a public officer
Agaba says that Between 1st and 30th June 2019 Mugisha Charles while employed as senior accounts assistant of Kanungu District local government mismanaged Shillings 218,840,000 M and knowingly furnished false statements in respect to shillings 67,052,000M meant to be used for various Ebola-related Activities for Kanungu district local government.
In 2019 the IGG Kigezi regional office received a complaint alleging that Two Hundred eighteen million eight hundred forty thousand shillings that was sent to Kanungu District Local government for activities against Ebola had been mismanaged by the District health officer and other officers
The then District health officer died in the course of the investigation but the IGG’s office was able to establish that Charles Mugisha, a senior Accounts assistant had mismanaged and embezzled funds
Mugisha has been transferred to the anti-corruption court in Kampala.
