Voters of Kahoko and Kinyamahwa parishes in Nyakagyeme Subcounty have endorsed Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo K. as their Woman MP ahead of the forthcoming 2026 elections, vowing to seize the opportunity in hopes of receiving essential services such as electricity, improved roads, and clean water.
Residents of Kahoko and Kinyamahwa New Parish–Nyakagyeme were today filled with happiness and joy as they received the Rukungiri District Woman MP NRM flag bearer, Turyahikayo Kebirungi Mary Paula, together with the District NRM Chairperson aspirant Mr. Charles Andrewson Katebire and NRM councillor flag bearers and chairpersons.
Speaking at the campaign rallies, voters—frustrated by unfulfilled promises and poor service delivery from previous leaders—swore to take the opportunity to vote for Turyahikayo Mary Paula, whom they called “Maama Rukungiri,” describing her as a leader of service delivery and development, along with Andrewson Katebire Charles, known for fighting corruption, and other NRM flag bearers.
After over 30 years of disappointment and numerous challenges such as poor impassable roads, scarcity of clean water, lack of electricity, absence of tertiary training institutions in Rujumbura County, and high levels of poverty—and following the services and infrastructure that Hon. Mary Paula delivered in Rubabo County—a large number of voters endorsed her ahead of the forthcoming general elections, saying she is the only leader capable of addressing their concerns and delivering essential services.
However, some voters in Kinyamahwa New Parish led by Mr. Julius Kakwerere—who had been supporting the incumbent Rukungiri District Woman MP Hon. Medius Kaharaata—announced that they have withdrawn their support from her camp and endorsed Hon. Mary Paula ahead of the 2026 general elections, citing better service delivery under the NRM flag bearer.
The Rukungiri District Woman MP aspirant and NRM flag bearer Hon. Turyahikayo Mary Paula K. also expressed frustration over the lack of essential services in many areas of Kahoko Parish, Kinyamahwa, and Nyakagyeme–Rujumbura at large, particularly poor roads, lack of clean water sources, and limited electricity.
With confidence as a leader focused on service delivery, Mary Paula pledged that if elected Woman MP, she would lead efforts to improve roads, lobby for clean water and electricity extension, and support youth advocacy. She noted that she has already distributed 15 balls to all primary schools in the district and is lobbying for a tertiary institution in Rujumbura Constituency to address youth unemployment by equipping them with skills.
However, Mary Paula urged voters to prioritize electing capable leaders who can deliver services and fight corruption, such as Andrewson Katebire Charles, who she said has been tried and tested. She criticized other contestants attempting to tarnish her name and instead encouraged voters to protect their votes and resist bribery and electoral irregularities.
