Residents of Kacereere Town Council, Rubanda District, along with local leaders, have expressed frustration over the delayed completion of the Kacereere playground grading project. The community now threatens to take legal action against Rubanda West MP, Hon. Kamuntu, citing continued unfulfilled promises regarding the project’s completion.
The playground, located in Kacereere Village, was initially graded under Hon. Kamuntu’s initiative, but the work remains unfinished. This has caused growing dissatisfaction, particularly among residents and school administrators who rely on the facility for sports and other activities.
Mbabazi Geoffrey, the PTA chairperson of Kacereere Primary School, told reporters that the school continues to struggle without a functional playground. He noted that Hon. Kamuntu has repeatedly promised to complete the project but has yet to follow through. Jeffrey stated that the MP recently assured them the work would be completed, though no exact date was confirmed. The PTA has scheduled a meeting on Thursday, March 20, to discuss the matter with school administrators. He emphasized that residents remain hopeful but will continue to press for action. If the project is not completed soon, legal action against Hon. Kamuntu will be considered.
Kacereere Town Council Mayor, Mugambagye Eliab, also voiced disappointment over the incomplete project, accusing Hon. Kamuntu of having a pattern of abandoning projects. He cited another unfinished road project from Muko to Hisesero-Kaara as an example. Mayor Eliab stressed that no one forced Hon. Kamuntu to undertake the playground grading; rather, he made the pledge himself during Women’s Day celebrations. He warned that local leaders and residents are prepared to take legal measures if the MP fails to fulfill his commitment.
Kacereere Primary School Head Teacher, Mr. Tindiwegi Bonney, echoed the frustrations of the community, emphasizing the urgent need for a proper playground. However, he opposed the idea of taking Hon. Kamuntu to court, urging stakeholders to continue engaging with him peacefully until the work is completed.
Meanwhile, Rubanda District Inspector of Schools, distanced himself from the political aspect of the issue but expressed optimism about the project’s progress. As a close associate of Hon. Kamuntu, he stated that the Ministry of Education and Sports welcomes the development of the playground. He also believes that the Church, which owns and oversees the school, is supportive of the improvements. He urged residents and leaders to exercise patience, expressing confidence that the work will eventually be completed.
Kacereere Primary School PTA members are set to meet with Ven. Edward Mwesigwa of St. Paul Kacereere Church of Uganda to discuss various issues, including the playground project.
