The Kabale Chief Magistrates Court on Friday committed a 22-year-old tailor to the High Court for trial over allegations of killing a second-year student at Kabale University and shooting dead a 23-year-old female police officer.
The suspect is Denis Arinaitwe, a resident of Kirigime Ward in the Southern Division of Kabale Municipality.
Prosecution led by theKabale Senior State Attorney, Raymond Mwesigwa Mugisha, told court that on March 19, 2023, Arinaitwe killed his lover Sarah Naturinda, who was found dead in her rented room in Kamukira Cell, Mwanjari ward of Kabale Municipality, and then after he went to Kabale Police Barracks in Central division and shot dead a policewoman Caroline Komugisha, who was also reportedly his lover.
Mwesigwa said that inquiries into the two murders are complete and asked the court to commit the suspect to the high court. The Kabale Chief Magistrate Rachel Tabaruka, then committed him to the High Court saying that her court has no jurisdiction to hear his case.
Tabaruka said the high court will use the evidence from the postmortem reports, forms where Arinaitwe was examined, the sketch plan, and the exhibits that were recovered at the two scenes of crime.
