There was excitement in Bushenyi -Ishaka municipality on Friday afternoon after  Parental care primary school Bushenyi and St. Mukasa Preparatory School Mushanga qualified to represent the western region in the forthcoming national spelling bee competitions.

This was after a one-day spelling bee competition organized by the Uganda spelling bee Enjuba in Bushenyi District.

The competition helps in improving literacy and academic excellence and sustaining a reading culture in addition to developing self-esteem, confidence, and interpersonal skills.

The competitions that attracted 20 teams saw Parental Care Bushenyi winning with a big percentage.

Desmond Tayebwa the deputy headmaster who teaches spelling at Parental said for the past five years the school has been winning competitions whci he attributed to hardwork.

He said the school is now looking at winning the national spelling bee championship that will be held in October this year in Kampala.

He encouraged parents to support the spelling bee because it improves children’s performance in academics.

The first three spellers were given trophies and medals and the best was Emmanuel Tindyebwa and Shasha Asiimwe from Parental Care while the last one was Thadious Mutiima from St Mukasa.

It should be noted that Parental Care Bushenyi was the second in Africa during the 2022 spelling bee competitions that were held in Blantyre Malawi.
