The Kabale Grade One Magistrate’s Court has further remanded a 24-year-old man accused of murdering a 45-year-old woman in Kabale Municipality.
The suspect, identified as Clinton Mwesiime, a resident of Hamurwa Town Council in Rubanda District and a volunteer at Hamurwa Health Centre IV, is accused of killing Leonarida Kobusingye, a resident of Ahataaba Village, Shebeya Parish, Hamurwa Sub-county, Rubanda District.
According to the prosecution, on July 29, 2025, while at Cheers Pub and Accommodation Cell in Kabale Municipality, Mwesiime, with malice aforethought, murdered Kobusingye, contrary to Sections 188 and 189 of the Penal Code Act.
Mwesiime was arrested on August 9, 2025, at Phanero Ministries Church in Kampala, where he reportedly confessed to the crime during a church service while seeking God’s forgiveness.
He was first detained at Jinja Road Police Station before being transferred to Kabale Central Police Station and later presented before Kabale Chief Magistrate’s Court on August 20, 2025, where he was remanded.
On Monday, while presiding over the case, His Worship Julius Mutabaazi read the case file but did not allow the suspect to enter a plea, noting that the matter is beyond his jurisdiction.
The absence of the state attorney in court also hindered guidance on the progress of investigations. The suspect has been further remanded to Ndorwa Government Prison until September 30, 2025, when he will reappear for mention of the case.
