The Kabale District COVID-19 taskforce has issued a directive mandating the wearing of face masks at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital and Kabale District headquarters as part of efforts to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Godfrey Nyakahuma, the Kabale Resident District Commissioner and Chairperson of the District COVID-19 taskforce, announced today that this decision follows the recent deaths of two individuals from COVID-19 in the previous month.
Nyakahuma disclosed that 16 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital during that time. He urged the public to avail themselves of COVID-19 vaccination services, emphasizing that vaccines are accessible at various health facilities across the district.
In May 2023, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), declared the conclusion of the global health emergency for COVID-19. Nevertheless, he clarified that this declaration did not signify the virus was no longer a global health concern. Nations were encouraged to transition from emergency response mode to managing COVID-19 alongside other infectious diseases.
