Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, has cautioned students in Kabale District against engaging in political hate speech, which has been spreading on social media.

Speaking as the keynote speaker at a public lecture organized by the Electoral Commission for tertiary institutions in Kabale District, held at Kabale University, Justice Byabakama urged the youth to refrain from hate speech, insults, and abuse online, warning that such behavior can incite violence and undermine democracy.

He also condemned the involvement of young people in electoral violence, criticizing those who incite the youth for their own selfish interests, which jeopardize the country’s peace and stability. Justice Byabakama encouraged the youth to resist and reject such influences.

Furthermore, he announced that the Electoral Commission plans to implement voter education programs targeting the youth to prevent election violence by 2026.
