The ruling in the case where former Rukungiri LC5 NRM flagbearer contestant Angello Twinomuhangi Bagorogoza is accused of stealing UGX 440 million has for the second time failed to take place, after the accused once again missed court citing ill health.
The money in question belonged to former Rubabo County MP Mary Paula Turyahikayo and her husband Eng. Godfrey Rwihunga Turyahikayo, and was reportedly intended for purchasing land in Kabale.
Trial Grade One Magistrate Milly Chandiru had initially scheduled judgment for August 19th, 2025, but Twinomuhangi, through his lawyers, said he had been involved in an accident the previous day and presented medical documents from Medicus Health Clinic showing a broken arm. The matter was adjourned to August 29th, 2025.
However, when court reconvened today, Twinomuhangi was again absent, and his lawyers also did not show up. Instead, Counsel Abraham of Elgon Advocates, holding brief, told court that Twinomuhangi’s condition had deteriorated and that he had been referred for surgery at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Hospital.
Abraham further informed court that the accused had instructed M/S Alaka Caleb Advocates to file a miscellaneous application in the High Court seeking a review of the case. The application, already registered as Miscellaneous Application No. 1 of 2025, seeks to halt the Grade One Magistrate’s proceedings and order a fresh trial before a different judicial officer. Hearing of the review is set for October 6th, 2025.
With the High Court now seized of the matter, Magistrate Chandiru adjourned the case to October 8th, 2025, pending the outcome of the review hearing.
Prosecution alleges that between October 2020 and February 2021, at Centenary Bank Kabale branch, Twinomuhangi stole UGX 440 million meant for the purchase of Rwakaraba Plot 35 Block 18 on behalf of the Turyahikayo family.
Meanwhile, Mary Paula Turyahikayo, who is now the NRM flagbearer for Rukungiri Woman MP seat, attended court today ready for the ruling, only to be informed of the fresh setback.
