Residents of Iremera village, Rutaka Parish, Kirundo Sub-County in Kisoro district, have voiced their frustration over alleged misconduct by their LC1 chairperson, Bazaraturukundo Emmanuel. They accuse him of collaborating with investors to block essential pathways used by the community, which has disrupted their daily activities.

The issue came to light when an anonymous letter was posted along the road, demanding Emmanuel’s resignation. The letter accuses him of corruption, conspiring with investors to obstruct four major pathways, and failing to be accountable for community development.

The letter, reviewed by our reporter, alleges that Emmanuel’s actions have impeded residents’ daily routines and criticizes his lack of commitment to community development.

During a village meeting, residents expressed their dissatisfaction with Emmanuel’s performance, arguing that his actions have stalled their progress. They highlighted that the closure of pathways is detrimental, as infrastructure is vital for development, and voiced their concerns about the situation.

Kwizera Apollo, the village’s general secretary, condemned Emmanuel’s lack of accountability. Apollo urged the chairperson to be transparent with the residents, emphasizing that they are the ones who elected him.

In response, LC1 Chairperson Bazaraturukundo Emmanuel defended his actions, attributing the issue to the residents’ agreement to sell land to the investor. He assured the community that he is working diligently to resolve the problem and requested their patience.
