Widows have been strongly encouraged to prioritize their personal development, happiness, and well-being, with the emphasis coming from Hon. Kebirungi Mary Paul Turyahikayo, former Rubabo member of parliament and NRM flag bearer for Rubabo constituency.

She delivered this advice as the guest of honor during the Thanksgiving event for the late John Barisigara’s family.

Speaking at the late John Barisigara’s residence in Kebisoni town council, Hon. Mary Paul urged widows to recognize their agency in leading healthy and fulfilling lives, dismissing any notions of hopelessness or poverty. She pointed to the example of Joy Barisigara, who, despite the loss of her husband, persevered and achieved notable milestones, including owning a multi-million house through hard work.

Encouraging widows to collaborate with their children to build upon the legacy of their late husbands, Hon. Mary Paul expressed gratitude towards the Barisigara family for their unwavering support during her tenure. She urged her coordinators and supporters to continue backing her until she announced her intentions to contest for the district woman seat.

Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe of the North Kigezi Diocese, who blessed the thanksgiving event, emphasized the importance of gratitude, acknowledging the family’s journey and achievements.

Rev. Canon Mugisha Kirebete, the Bishop’s Commissary, expressed admiration for Joy Barisigara’s resilience and pledged ongoing prayers and support for the family’s endeavors.

In her remarks, Joy Barisigara highlighted the significance of psychological readiness and financial stability for widows to attain happiness. She urged fellow widows to take control of their destinies, work diligently, and maintain faith in God to overcome challenges and avoid unnecessary despair.

The event, attended by various dignitaries including Elder Kikoni, Hon. Naboth Namanya, the Rubabo member of parliament, Geofrey Kyomukama LC5 Rukungiri, and Colonel Bernard Arinaitwe, raised 6 million shillings. The gathered funds will contribute to supporting the family’s future endeavors and church activities, reflecting the community’s solidarity and support.
