The Minister for Security and Member of Parliament for Rujumbura Constituency, Hon. Jim Katuguugu Muhwezi, has rallied the people of Rukungiri to embrace every government program to empower themselves economically.
Hon. Jim Muhwezi was presiding over the official opening ceremony of the Rujumbura Institute of Business and Technology and the Rujumbura Constituency Farmers and Traders Limited SACCO, both located in Kazindiro Parish, Bugangari Sub-county, Rukungiri District.
Hon. Jim emphasized the importance of embracing government programs, especially the Parish Development Model (PDM). He noted that it is unprecedented in any African country for the government to bring financial resources directly to the grassroots. The 1 million shillings provided through the PDM can be a good startup for anyone, as it targets the 39% of Ugandans who are not yet part of the money economy.
He called on the people to avoid corrupt practices in government programs by following the correct procedures to access the funds. He questioned why someone should sign for 1 million shillings and receive less than that amount, sending a strong warning to those involved in corrupt practices related to the distribution of PDM funds.
Hon. Jim also urged parents to prioritize educating their children and enrolling them in technical institutions, emphasizing that hands-on skills are essential in today’s world.
Hon. Jim has been sponsoring 100 students at the Rujumbura Institute of Business and Technology, selecting two pupils from each parish in Rujumbura. He pledged to sponsor 20 more students, with a focus on those in need.
According to Brian Akatwijuka, the Director of the Rujumbura Institute of Business and Technology, he expressed his gratitude to Gen. Jim for supporting his initiative by sponsoring 100 students, each with a payment of 300,000 shillings.
He urged parents to take advantage of this opportunity by enrolling more students in the institute for vocational and technical skills, which can enable them to become self-employed.
He also called on parents to prioritize their children’s education, stating that it is the only true wealth they can provide. He emphasized that what parents leave with their children is less important than what they instill in them. He further urged parents not to involve their children in unproductive activities.
Lastly, he encouraged parents and students to support Gen. Jim Muhwezi in the 2026 elections.
