Hon. Bataringaya Bazil Rwankwene, Chairperson of the Ankole Parliamentary Group and Member of Parliament for Kashari North, Mbarara District, has announced the launch of free surgical services aimed at saving lives in the Ankole sub-region.
He clarified that the surgeries will be conducted in 25 health facilities equipped with operational theaters. Patients seeking surgery are advised to register with their respective health center in-charges.
Hon. Bataringaya explained that this corporate social responsibility initiative will be supported by the Ankole Parliamentary Group in collaboration with the Association of Surgeons of Uganda. The surgical camps will take place simultaneously at the 25 designated health facilities from September 21 to 27, 2024. Additional days will be allocated to monitor the recovery of patients.
He urged individuals suffering from conditions requiring surgery to register early with their local Health Center III in-charge. The list of patients will be submitted to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital to ensure better planning and coordination.
Hon. Bataringaya also revealed that over 500 medical doctors will participate in the exercise, with each facility managed by a team of 40 doctors. However, pregnant women are encouraged to continue using the existing healthcare services, as the surgical camps will focus on conditions such as cataracts, hernias, and other similar illnesses.
Hon. Rita Atukwasa Bwahika, Woman Member of Parliament for Mbarara City, also urged the public to take advantage of this opportunity and register early for the free surgeries at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital and Mbarara City Health Center IV.
