Parents have been strongly advised to effectively plan for their school-going children during the holidays. Molly Asiimwe, the headteacher of Nyakanyinya Primary School, expressed concern about the growing trend of children becoming lazy due to poor upbringing.
Asiimwe urged parents to refrain from the habit of arbitrarily changing their children from one school to another, emphasizing that such frequent changes negatively impact a child’s educational development. Exposure to different environments may not be conducive to academic success.
During the graduation ceremony of pupils completing their pre-primary level at Nyakanyinya Primary School in Nyakanyinya, Rwamugooma Ruhinda subcounty, Rukungiri district, Asiimwe addressed parents and children. She cautioned against allowing children to spend the entire holiday loitering around towns, watching TV, or visiting relatives.
At the same event, Kanyamukwaara Mujuriizi, the chairperson of the nursery section at Nyakanyinya Primary School and guest of honor representing Medius Kaharaata, the woman MP of Rukungiri district, commended parents, teachers, and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) committee for their contributions to the school. He stressed the importance of education as a valuable tool that parents should provide to their children. However, he noted that some parents are denying their children the right to education by failing to pay school fees and neglecting the needs of the less fortunate.
Mujuriizi urged parents to establish side projects to generate income, emphasizing the need to lay a solid foundation for their children’s future. Jones Bekunda, the chairperson of the school’s management and headteacher of St. Rafael Secondary School, supported this advice. He encouraged parents to limit exposing their children to a luxurious lifestyle, as it hinders them from thinking about initiatives that could benefit them.
Bekunda further recommended that parents engage their children in constructive activities during the third-term holidays to prevent them from crossing paths with wrongdoers.
