Nyarushanje sub-county leaders have asked the Rukungiri district security committee to come up and help them to regulate the born-again churches because they are becoming a security threat in the area.
According to Nyarushanje sub-county chairperson Micheal Musiime, some of the born-again church leaders always start up churches even without informing the sub-county leaders.
He says some pastors start up these churches in disguise of performing miracles but they end up doing other activities which are being investigated especially during night crusades. The churches are common in Omukiyenje town, Nyabushenyi, and other parts of the sub-county.
When asked about the issue, the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner Steven Nsubunga Bewayo, he said has always received complaints from local leaders hence asking the pastors to always seek permission and clearance from government leaders in their areas or risk being closed.
He noted that some people spend a lot of time worshiping instead of working, which is not good because some born-again church leaders are after soliciting money from the believers.
He added that he has already received similar concerns from Buhunga, Ruhinda, and Nyakagyeme sub-county leaders .
RDC Bewayo, therefore, warned pastors in Nyarushanje to always conduct prayers at the right time or be dealt with because his office is already aware and ready to take action on them.
