Rev. Fr. Abenayezu Gerald from Makiro Parish, Kabale Diocese, has challenged married Christians to prioritize love and joint care for their children if there is to be peace in families and a strong church in the future.
He made this statement on 29th December 2024, during the celebrations of the Holy Family Day at Nyarushanje Catholic Parish in Kabale Diocese. Fr. Gerald emphasized that the family is a strong foundation of the Kingdom of God as long as there is love between parents and care for children.
He condemned divisionism among married couples, noting that it not only leads to disintegration but also affects children’s thinking, leading them to leave their homes, enter early marriages, or seek employment opportunities elsewhere. He stressed the importance of praying together as a family in the fight against Satan and obstructing evil from invading children, thereby preventing behaviors like alcoholism, premarital sex, and others.
Tom Rugarwana, the chairperson of the married Christians (Abeeka Erikweera) in Nyarushanje Parish, said that as married Christians in the parish, they are doing everything in their power to develop both spiritually and economically. He said they are committed to fighting against domestic violence, which he identified as a challenge in Uganda.
Speaking as a guest of honor, Rubabo County MP aspirant Ngabirano Earnest Katara hailed the church for ensuring peace in families by preaching against domestic violence. He urged married people to always work towards development and educating their children.
Katara donated UGX 1M to the Association of Married Christians to support their activities and additionally provided the parish with 100 bags of cement for the ongoing church construction project.
