Kashasha Town Council FC etched their name into local football history by clinching their maiden championship at the 2024 Hon. Grace Mutebile Tournament. The final, held at Muko Playground, showcased dramatic moments and outstanding performances, particularly from two Batwa players, John Ruhangariyo, popularly known as “Saka,” and Gordon Ainamana.
Kashasha FC’s journey to the title saw them triumph over Muko Sub County in the semifinals with a 3-1 victory in penalties. They advanced to face Kacerere Town Council, who had defeated Nshanjare Town Council 2-0 in their semifinal clash.
In a nail-biting final, Kashasha FC edged out Kacerere FC in a penalty shootout, winning 4-2 after a 2-2 draw in regular time. Gordon Ainamana delivered a stellar performance, scoring the equalizing goal after Kacerere’s goalkeeper, Sabiiti Brendon, made a critical mistake. Ainamana also netted the decisive penalty that secured victory for Kashasha.
“We worked hard, stayed determined, and achieved this historic win,” Ainamana said. He also extended gratitude to Hon. Grace Mutebile for her commitment to nurturing talent within the Batwa community and the greater Rubanda District.
The tournament, organized by Hon. Grace Mutebile, an aspiring woman MP for Rubanda District in 2026, brought together teams from 17 sub-counties across the district. Hon. Mutebile emphasized the unifying power of sports, highlighting its role in promoting harmony across cultural, racial, and religious lines, as well as its health benefits in combating non-communicable diseases.
Mutebile, who also serves as the President of the International Community of Banyakigezi (ICOB), urged the people of Rubanda to end discrimination against the Batwa, advocating for inclusive development in the Kigezi region.
