Police in Buhweju District have arrested four individuals in connection with the murder of a prison warden.
The incident occurred on the night of August 3rd to 4th, 2024, in Kakiika Cell, Nsiika Town Council, Buhweju District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed that the deceased was identified as NO.9231 PC Warder Alex Kajwarire, 45, a prison warden attached to Buhweju Government Prison.
Tumusiime identified the four suspects as Innocent Nuwabiine, 19, Lawrence Sabarangira, 38, Godwine Asiimwe, 38, and Specioza Kasande, the deceased’s concubine, whose cap was recovered from the scene. All suspects are residents of Kakiika Cell, Nsiika Town Council.
According to the police, the deceased was attacked and beaten to death by unknown assailants during the night of August 3rd to 4th. His body was found abandoned in the middle of the road.
It is reported that the deceased had been in a relationship with Specioza Kasande, whose husband, Deus Kasheija, had moved to Kampala. The woman’s sons had recently assaulted and injured the deceased, warning him to end the relationship. It appears he did not take the threats seriously.
Tumusiime stated that the body was discovered lying in the road, dressed in civilian clothes with visible head injuries. The body has been taken to Nkika Health Centre IV for a postmortem, and investigations are ongoing.
