Former Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kaihura, offered advice to members of the MK Movement, urging them to employ effective tactics to win over the support of those who may not currently back them, including top government officials such as ministers. Kaihura shared these insights as the guest of honor at the MK Movement Team building function in the Kigezi region, held at the Kanungu district playground.

During his address, Kaihura emphasized the importance of using strategic approaches, highlighting that it is counterproductive to support a father while simultaneously opposing his son. He committed to conveying the challenges facing the Kigezi region, including issues like poor tourism infrastructure and declining tea prices, to Gen Muhoozi Keinerugaba, citing the significance of the concerns documented in writing.

Kaihura also called on the people of Kanungu to rally behind Gen Muhoozi Keinerugaba when the time comes, praising his leadership skills and citing successful peace talks in areas such as the Uganda-Rwanda border, counteraction against ADF, and efforts to secure freedom within the country.

Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, and MP for Kinkiizi East, clarified that he was speaking on behalf of the government in his capacity as the government spokesperson. He explained the initial discord with the MK Movement, which was resolved through dialogue with President Museveni and the MK team.

Baryomunsi affirmed President Museveni’s candidacy in the 2026 elections and announced his own bid for Kinkiizi East. Godfrey Karabenda, the NRM chairperson for Kanungu district and Mayor of Kanungu Town Council, expressed satisfaction with the MK Movement’s support for the NRM across the country, pledging Kanungu’s backing for the cause.

Eng. Sam Arineitwe Kajojo, the chairperson of Kanungu district, welcomed the MK Movement to the area and urged Kaihura to advocate for tourism-related challenges. He emphasized the need for increased revenue allocation from tourism and addressed issues such as delayed compensation.WCD

Touching on tea farming concerns, he revealed that Kanungu tea farmers were grappling with a decline in green leaf prices, prompting some to consider uprooting tea plants in favor of other crops. Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, the Rukungiri municipality legislator, encouraged support for Gen Keinerugaba as a potential successor after his father’s retirement from active politics.

Baram Barugahara, the Western Uganda MK Movement vice chairperson, and Ambrose Kibuuka, the Kigezi region MK Movement chairperson, expressed gratitude to all attendees and supporters, urging the people to stay engaged with the MK project. The ceremony saw a turnout of over 5000 people from various parts of Kigezi, Toro, and Ankole regions.
