The former Minister for General Duties in the Prime Minister’s Office, Prof. Tarasis Kabwegyere, has urged parents to prioritize their children’s education.

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting for St. Kagwa Day and Boarding Primary School, Kabwegyere highlighted that Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality is performing well on a national level due to the efforts of dedicated individuals.

He emphasized that leaders should focus on parents who have not enrolled their children in school, stating that education must be a priority for any community to develop.

Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipal Education Officer Dan Mugyenyi noted that St. Kagwa is the largest school in the municipality in terms of enrollment, followed by Bweranyangi and Pearl Junior School. However, he pointed out that St. Kagwa’s boarding section is operating without the necessary legal permits.

The school headteacher, Celestine Twinomugisha, explained that the school had not held a general meeting for some time due to COVID-19 and Ebola, as directed by the ministry.

Twinomugisha also mentioned several challenges the school faces, including high demand and a shortage of teachers, the need for an occupational permit for the dormitories, and increasing student numbers.

The school has recently commissioned the construction of a three-story building at a cost of 850 million shillings. This building, contracted to Byabeki Technical Services, will house the administration block and computer laboratories and is expected to be completed in nine months.
