The territorial police in Rukiga have apprehended five individuals on suspicion of harming animals.
The incident took place on October 1st, 2023, at approximately 02:00 pm in Nyakitabire “cell Kamwezi sub-county Rukiga district. The incident was reported by Basheija Agastus, a 25-year-old herdsman residing at the mentioned address.
According to the report, on the aforementioned date, while Basheija Agastus and Kibonge were grazing cattle belonging to their respective bosses, they observed two individuals bypassing them and climbing a nearby hill.
Shortly after, these individuals returned with a bucket. One of them descended to their residence and gathered more individuals, armed with machetes and dogs. When the two herdsmen saw these newcomers climbing the hill, they sensed danger and fled to another valley.
The group led by the individuals who had initially climbed the hill entered the area where the cows were grazing and caused injuries to two cows. Subsequently, they departed from the scene.
The victims were unable to identify the suspects due to the distance between them and the perpetrators, but they alerted others for help.
Later, the police responded to the incident. They visited the scene, conducted their investigation, and as a result, four suspects were taken into custody. These suspects are currently being held at Rukiga Central Police Station while further investigations are ongoing.
