Minister of Finance (General Duties), Henry Musasizi Ariganyira, has called on residents in Rubanda District to obtain land titles as a safeguard against potential land grabbers. The district has experienced incidents of land grabbing, exemplified by the case of 80-year-old Sikora Kokyenga last October, who faced the risk of losing her 25-acre land in Kandiihe village. A ruling file mysteriously disappeared from the Kabale High Court office, resulting in her losing the case against her nephew, Furugence Kanyamugara.

Recently, authorities in Rubanda intervened in another land case, where locals accused Rubanda Woman Member of Parliament, Prossy Akampurira Begumisa Mbabazi, of encroaching on public land in Karengyere Muko Sub County.

Minister Musasizi, addressing the issue at the 30th Anniversary of Rev Fr Dominic Tumusiime’s priesthood and a fundraising event for the construction of Permanent Yesu Ahurire, Kakihuma Catholic church, emphasized his efforts to protect various lands in Rubanda District from land grabbers. He stressed the importance of securing land titles for Community and Church Lands to prevent illegal seizures, citing the Land Act for protecting Kakihuma land.

Expressing gratitude to the NRM leadership, led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Minister Musasizi highlighted enacted Acts aimed at resolving conflicts in Uganda. He encouraged residents to engage in income-generating projects at the household level, utilizing available land wisely. He also urged the adoption of government programs like the Parish Development Model and Emyooga to alleviate poverty.

During the event, Rev Fr Tumusiime emphasized the importance of giving back to God and communities, promoting love for prosperity in the world. The fundraising event successfully raised over 40 million shillings and received 75 pledges for the construction of Yesu Ahurire, Kakihuma Catholic permanent church, under Rubanda Catholic Parish.
