The Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment has awarded a 6.3 billion contract to Vidas Engineering Services Company to construct a Fecal sludge in Western Division, Nothern A Ward Rukungiri Municipality.

Faecal sludge  (Septage) is the slurry that contains both solid and liquid waste that accumulates in onsite sanitation systems (OSS) e.g. septic tanks. It is raw or partially digested slurry that results from the collection, storage, or treatment of combinations of excreta and blackwater, with or without greywater.

While speaking to us, the  Vidas Engineering Construction Company Relation Officer Asiimwe Jackline said the project is in its initial stage where they are now engaging the stakeholders and sensitizing the masses about this new project.

This project comes along with the construction of Waterborne Toilets at Rukungiri Health IV, St. Karoli Lwanga Hospital Nyakibale,Nyamayenje Market, and Kebisoni Market.

Relatedly, they will also construct Institutional  V.I.P Latrines (Two stance 6 latrines) for boys and girls at Kinyasaano Boarding Primary School, Nyakibale Upper, Nyakibale Lower Primary School, and Kahoro Primary School.

A faecal sludge vacuum truck will also be procured by the Contractor for collecting and transporting all human waste to Kagunga fecal sludge for treatment and residents will have an opportunity to use the treated human waste as manure.

Asiimwe Jackline says the project will be completed within one year.
