Rukungiri district and Municipality in partnership with the Ministry of Water and Environment on Wednesday handed over land to VIDAS Engineering Services Company to establish a Waste management unit estimated at 6.3 billion shilling funded by World Bank.

The land located around Kagunga forest reserve near Western Division headquarters measures 3 acres and was donated by the district.

The Project includes 13 stance water-flushed toilets at Kebisoni Market, Nyamayenje market, 3 stance water-flushed toilets at Rukungiri Health Center IV and Nyakibale Hospital, 2 VIP toilets at Nyakibale boarding primary school, Nyakibale Lower Primary School, Kinyasano boarding primary school and Kahororo Primary School expected to be completed in 10 months.

Engineer Emmex Turyatunga who led a team from the Ministry of Water and Environment revealed that the project is intended to improve the hygiene and sanitation of the fast-growing population within Rukungiri Municipality and asked the public for cooperation.

The Resident District Commissioner Steven Nsubuga Bewayo noted that the project is in line with poverty elevation among the people and cautioned the contractor to prevent workers from harming the locals.
The Mayor Rukungiri Municipal Council His worship Charles Makuru told the contractor that they want quality work and promised keen supervision.
The Director of VIDAS Engineering Services Company Turyamwesiga Venansi revealed that they are ready to cooperate with the public and follow the guidelines to produce quality work on time.
