Members of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Masya Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub County, Rukungiri district, on Monday elected their leaders at the village level.

Billy Bakehemura, the newly elected FDC party chairperson for Masya Parish, expressed gratitude to party members for actively participating in the election to choose representatives for various positions in line with party guidelines. Bakehemura acknowledged the sensitivity of his role as Party Chairperson and pledged to exert his best efforts to elevate FDC to a deserving status. He also promised to foster cooperation among Party leaders, despite reported divisions within the higher echelons of the party.

Bakehemura revealed that, despite existing factions within the FDC, they are adhering to guidelines from the Katonga faction. He urged FDC supporters to disregard attempts by the Najjanankumbi team to demobilize their electoral process.

Hon. Nabimanya Christopher Kapiira, the former Aspiring Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County, was appointed as the Treasurer of the FDC party in Masya Parish. He encouraged party supporters to remain dedicated, emphasizing their focus on strengthening the FDC in preparation for the 2026 General Election.

Additionally, Hon. Kapiira informed the members that the FDC National Party Chairperson, Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa, had conducted a Delegates’ Conference in September of the previous year. During this conference, Patrick Oboi Amuriat, Nandala Maffabi, and Fred Ekanya were unanimously suspended for alleged misuse of their offices. An interim committee, led by Elias Lukwago, was appointed to address the situation.

Kapiira emphasized the importance of trusting and supporting the FDC Katonga faction, as it is committed to securing the country from what they perceive as a family rule under President Museveni, advocating for a transition to democratic leadership.
