A fatal motorcycle accident occurred on the evening of January 14, 2024, at approximately 10:00 PM, along the Kisoro-Chanika Road in Kisoro District. The incident involved two motorcycles, both Bajaj Boxer models in red color: registration numbers UFA 876P and UDA 928C.
The deceased, identified as Irankunda Gadi, a 25-year-old boda boda rider from Muganza Village, Nyakabingo Parish, Chahi Sub-county, was riding the motorcycle with registration number UFA 876P. The other victim, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was the rider of motorcycle UDA 928C.
According to police reports, the accident occurred when the rider of motorcycle UDA 928C, who was heading from Kisoro Town towards Chanika, attempted to overtake a vehicle while ascending the hill at Muganza Corner. In doing so, he collided with the oncoming motorcycle UFA 876P, which was traveling in the opposite direction from Chanika towards Kisoro Town. Preliminary investigations suggest that dangerous overtaking and speeding were the primary causes of the accident.
The scene was visited by ASP Kushaba Michael, the Detective Officer in Kisoro, along with his team. The victim, Irankunda Gadi, was rushed to Mutorele Hospital for treatment, while the body of the deceased was transferred to Kisoro Hospital Mortuary for postmortem. Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
