An investigation is underway at Rukungiri Central Police station into the circumstances surrounding a fatal accident that claimed the life of Muhwezi Justus, a 50-year-old resident of Rwenkureijo cell, Nyakaina Parish, Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri District.
The incident occurred this morning as Muhwezi, a former manager at Kingz Hotel in Rwobusisi cell, Kyamakanda Parish, was traveling on a motorcycle (registration Number UFM 373V) with its rider, Mushabire Francis.
According to eyewitnesses, the motorcycle was collided from behind in the valley between Nyakibale hospital and Omukatoogo Nyamayenje. A yet-to-be-identified white Harrier Kahundu was following them and eventually struck them. Muhwezi Justus was thrown off the road and pursued by the vehicle before it fled the scene.
Muhwezi Justus was rushed to Nyakibale hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Mushabire Francis, the motorcycle rider, sustained injuries to his legs and back.
The police traffic and homicide units are actively involved in the investigation. The body of Muhwezi Justus is currently at Karoli Lwanga Nyakibale hospital mortuary, awaiting postmortem examination and further investigation.
