Tragedy unfolded on Tuesday along the Rukungiri-Ntungamo road near Nyamayenje ward, southern division, when two motor vehicles collided around 12:30 PM, leading to the loss of a precious life.
Involved in the collision were a silver Toyota Allion bearing registration number UBJ 142Z, driven by Mugarura Jackson, a 72-year-old resident of Ngomba parish, Rugarama Rushenyi, Ntungamo district, and a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number UER 980U, ridden by Denis Turyamushangayo, also known as Butcherman, a 45-year-old businessman from Rukungiri district.
Sadly, the collision resulted in the death of the motorcycle rider, Denis, who sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Nyakibale Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Preliminary reports from the scene indicate that the two vehicles collided head-on at a slightly curved junction road. Denis, who was transporting four bunches of bananas (Matooke), was traveling in his designated lane when the Toyota Allion, driven by Mugarura Jackson, swerved into his path, leading to the tragic collision.
Promptly responding to the scene, police, led by Detective Officer (DTO) Asp Ntawera Felix and his team, arrived to document the incident. The area was cleared, and both vehicles were towed to the police station for further investigation.
While the investigation remains ongoing, initial assessments suggest that recklessness on the part of the Toyota Allion driver is suspected as the cause of the accident.
