An accident that occurred on Wednesday evening has reportedly resulted in the deaths of two individuals. The incident involved a Fuso Fighter with registration number UBD 577P, which was traveling from Kabale to Kanungu. The vehicle veered off the road near the border of Kanungu and Rubanda districts, about 2 kilometers from its destination, after the driver failed to negotiate a corner.

The informer Mr Mbabazi Fred Darlington stated that the vehicle was transporting bricks from Kabale to Kayonza in Butogota town council in Kanungu district when the accident happened around 8:30 pm in Kanyashogye cell, Mpungu parish, Mpungu sub-county, Kanungu district.

Two people lost their lives in the incident, and three other victims were taken to Kanyashogye Health Center 2 for medical treatment. All the victims were reportedly passengers in the same vehicle.

Mbabazi Fred Darlington mentioned that this particular corner had been the site of a similar tragedy in 2022. Back then, a vehicle carrying electric poles from Kabale to Kanungu also failed to negotiate the corner, resulting in the instant death of two individuals.

Bazirebye Dan, the community development officer of Mpungu subcounty, who arrived at the scene, attributed the accident to the slippery road and the sharp corner. He urged the relevant authorities to install roadside metallic guards at the corner due to its reputation as a dangerous spot leading to fatal accidents.

Dan disclosed that the details of the deceased were yet to be confirmed as locals were still at the scene, awaiting the police to conduct postmortem examinations on the bodies. Additionally, efforts were underway to check if the deceased had any documents that could assist the police in establishing their addresses.

Boona Radio is expected to provide more details as they are received.
