Police in Bushenyi District are currently investigating the murder of a 70-year-old man, Fred Bonabantu. The victim, a peasant residing in Bugomora A cell, Katikamwe ward, Kyabugimbi trading center, Bushenyi District, was brutally killed by unknown assailants.
The incident, which occurred on 20/01/2024 at an undisclosed time during the night, was confirmed by Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police. On the morning of 21/01/2024, at approximately 7:00 AM, the lifeless body of the elderly man was discovered in his kitchen, where he usually slept while guarding his animals.
Rodgers Magabo, who reported the case to the police, mentioned that the murder followed a family conflict over land. It was revealed that the deceased had sold some of his cows to finance the construction of a new house.
Tumusiime disclosed that the victim had sustained a deep cut on the neck and another on the back, close to the neck. Preliminary findings by the police suggested an absence of blood splatter on the ground, and the victim’s legs were found inside a sack.
The police spokesperson added that the body was removed from the kitchen and transported to Kampala International Teaching Hospital for postmortem examination. The investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind this heinous crime.
