The Bishop of the Diocese of Muhabura, Rt Rev Godfrey Mbitse, has called on Christians to set aside internal conflicts within the diocese and focus on serving God during the ongoing 29th Diocesan Anglican Youth Missioners (MAYM) conference.

Conflicts within the Diocese emerged in September 2021 when Bishop Emeritus Cranmer Mugisha hinted at early retirement, leading to accusations of failed church projects and divisive practices. Philemon Mateke and others accused Bishop Emeritus Mugisha of expediting his retirement due to project failures, nepotism, and fostering division among Christians. Legal action was initiated in November 2021, with residents seeking an injunction against selecting Bishop Emeritus Mugisha’s successor. While the court granted an injunction, the petitioners later withdrew for an out-of-court settlement.

In his current address, Bishop Mbitse acknowledged the internal challenges but urged Christians to steer clear of conflicts and focus on spreading the gospel. He stressed the importance of choosing faithful leaders who genuinely know God, a sentiment echoed by other church leaders.

During the conference, the Provincial Mission coordinator, Rev. Peter Simon Dembe Rya Yesu, emphasized the detrimental impact of extramarital affairs, fornication, and alcoholism on family stability. He urged Christians to prioritize family commitment as a preventive measure against breakdowns and violence.
