The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo has today morning released the two Uganda People’s Defense Force Officers who were on Monday this week arrested by the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The two UPDF officers are RA/ 258358 Pte Okello Joseph and RA/ 257949 Pte Kwemoi Michael who were arrested on Monday in Busanza in the Democratic Republic of Congo and detained in Goma.

The Kisoro Resident district commissioner, Hajji Shafiq Ssekandi Sengooba has confirmed to our reporter that the two officers have been handed back to Uganda this morning at 9.30 am.

Sengooba also said that the situation is still calm at both Bunagana one stop border point and Busanza border revealing that no fighting between the M23 rebels and Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo has been reported today.

He added that 68 individuals from 41 Households were yesterday received at Nyakabande Transit Centre through Bunagana one stop border post.
