Rubanda District — Shock and disbelief rocked residents of Muntuuro, Kigunga Parish in Bufundi Subcounty, after a man aspiring for a leadership position was caught red-handed with stolen livestock.
The suspect, identified as Turyahumura Onesimus Akankwansa, is said to be eyeing the Bufundi Subcounty LCV Councilor seat currently held by Hon. Biryomumeisho Laban. According to local sources, Turyahumura was apprehended on Wednesday with two sheep allegedly stolen from neighboring farms.

Eyewitnesses allege that Turyahumura resorted to theft in a desperate attempt to raise funds for nomination forms to contest in the upcoming NRM elections. In a dramatic turn of events, angry residents tied the stolen animals to the suspect and marched him through the village to the home of his father, Mr. Akankwasa Nyasio.
In a scene described by locals as both painful and embarrassing, the elder Akankwasa beat his son with a cane in front of villagers until concerned residents intervened, fearing the situation could turn fatal.
Local authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but the incident has raised serious questions about the character and integrity of aspiring leaders in the area. Residents have called for thorough vetting of all candidates seeking public office to ensure they reflect the values of trust and accountability.
