Local leaders in Bwambara Sub County, Rukungiri District, have voiced their discontent with the management of the water project by Kyehunde Full Gospel Church. The church, two years ago, constructed a solar-powered water project spanning seven cells from the Kanyabusambwe Valley source.

Mr. Ntungura Gideon, the District Councilor representing Bwambara Sub County, emphasized that according to regulations, the project should have been handed over to the government for management. However, the church declined to sign a memorandum of understanding with the District Water Office for proper community-wide management.

Christopher Kagayano, the Chairperson of LC3 Bwambara Sub County, stated that they have advised affected individuals to file petitions to alert the government about the situation, urging the government to take over the project for better management and broader community benefit.

Rev. Kamazooba Sadress Mugisha, the Priest of Kyehunde Full Gospel Church, advocated for a meeting rather than speculation to address the issue.

Mr. Emmanuel Nuwagaba, the head of Laity at Kyehunde Full Gospel Church, claimed that the government neglected them from the project’s inception, facing public resistance and demands for compensation for the water source and pipeline network. He also noted interruptions in public consumption due to lack of sustainability.

Caleb Tumwekwasize, the Chairperson of LC1 Omumuyanje Cell, mentioned that they receive water once a week and attributed the situation to the government’s failure to supply hydroelectric power for water transmission, highlighting the inadequacy of the current solar-powered system.
